Sister Dies in an Attempt to Save Drowning Brother in Sumbal Bandipora

Sister Dies in an Attempt to Save Drowning Brother in Sumbal Bandiporaa

Date: June 25, 2023

Sumbal, Bandipora District, Jammu and Kashmir

In a heart-wrenching incident today, a young woman lost her life while heroically trying to rescue her drowning brother in the Shadipora area of Sumbal, located in the north Kashmir district of Bandipora.

Early reports received by the media suggest that Nazakat Ali, a 21-year-old boy, had ventured into a river for a swim when he found himself in distress and struggled to stay afloat. The news of his predicament quickly spread, and upon hearing about her brother's dire situation, Nuzhat Afzal, an 18-year-old girl, fearlessly jumped into the river, hoping to save her beloved sibling.

With admirable courage and selflessness, Nuzhat fought against the currents to reach her struggling brother. However, tragedy struck when Nazakat was rescued, but Nuzhat, unfortunately, succumbed to exhaustion and lost consciousness during her retrieval from the water. Despite the valiant efforts of onlookers and locals present, it was too late to save her life.

Nuzhat Afzal, whose life was tragically cut short, has left behind a community devastated by the loss of a young soul filled with bravery and compassion. Her untimely demise serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in acts of selflessness and the unpredictable nature of water bodies.

The rescued brother, Nazakat Ali, was immediately rushed to the JVC Hospital in critical condition. Medical professionals are now working tirelessly to stabilize his condition and provide the necessary care for his recovery. The incident has left the entire community in deep shock and mourning.

Authorities, including local law enforcement, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. They are collecting essential details to better understand the incident and ensure such incidents are prevented in the future, if possible.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a poignant reminder of the courage and love that exists within families, as well as the risks individuals are willing to take to protect their loved ones. Nuzhat Afzal's selfless act of bravery and sacrifice will be forever etched in the memories of those who witnessed her final heroic endeavor.

As the community grieves the loss of this young life, it is a time to reflect on the preciousness of life itself and the importance of cherishing those we hold dear. May Nuzhat Afzal's soul rest in eternal peace, and may her family find solace and strength during this difficult time.
