Tragic Death of a Student at Sonmarg Resort
A picnic trip turned into a nightmare for a group of students and teachers from Baramulla Public School (BPS) when one of their classmates drowned in a fish pond at Sonmarg tourist resort on Saturday.
According to the police, the incident happened around noon when Shoaib Farooq Chachi, a 14-year-old student of Class 8, slipped into the water while bathing with his friends. He was pulled out by his friends and teachers and rushed to a nearby health centre, but he could not be saved.
The police have registered a case and started an investigation into the matter.
The Private Schools Association of Kashmir has expressed grief over the death of the student and appealed to the administration to depute lifeguards at all the vulnerable tourist spots to prevent any loss of life.
The association president GN Var said that they would extend all possible help to the victim's family. [KNT]
